About Cotehele

One of the least altered medieval houses in England, Cotehele overlooks the Tamar Valley from a wooded hillside on the Cornish bank. The house — built by the Edgcumbe family between 1485 and 1539 — retains its original furniture, tapestries and armour, having escaped the renovation that transformed most historic houses. The gardens and quay on the Tamar below complete one of the most atmospheric National Trust properties in the country.
