About Churchbridge

Churchbridge is a hamlet in Cornwall, a mile west of Duloe, set along the course of the West Looe River. Both banks of the river are wooded, the trees rising close to the water and giving the place a tucked-away, riverside feel. At the heart of the hamlet a bridge crosses the river; to the north of that bridge lies a disused quarry and the long-standing presence of Tremadart Mills, marked as a corn mill on an 1882 map. The juxtaposition of woodland, water and remnants of industry creates a quietly compelling scene: the mill and quarry speak of a working past, while the wooded banks offer a gentle sense of enclosure and calm. Close to Duloe yet distinct in character, Churchbridge presents a compact portrait of rural Cornwall where historic map annotations and surviving features combine to tell a story of landscape and labour. The bridge, the river and the mills remain the defining elements of this small but evocative riverside settlement.
