About Gunwalloe

Gunwalloe is a coastal civil parish on the Lizard Peninsula, three miles (4.8 km) south of Helston. It partly contains The Loe, the largest natural freshwater lake in Cornwall, a quietly impressive feature of the local landscape. The parish’s small community—219 people at the 2011 census, including Berepper—is dispersed among the hamlets of Chyanvounder, Berepper and Chyvarloe. To the east lie the Halzephron cliffs and, further east, the parish church, creating a simple sequence of coastal and cultural landmarks. For a visitor, Gunwalloe presents an intimate stretch of Cornish coast: a compact parish where lake, hamlet and cliff sit close together, inviting slow exploration and a moment to appreciate the Lizard Peninsula’s understated variety.
