About Gwinear
Gwinear is a small village in west Cornwall, England, positioned in the Cornwall district and the South West region. Now part of the parish of Gwinear-Gwithian, the settlement lies about two miles (3 km) east of Hayle and looks out over the Angarrack valley. Once a civil parish in its own right, Gwinear recorded a population of 1,234 in 1931. On 1 April 1934 the original parish was abolished to form Gwinear Gwithian. With a TR27 postcode district and a clear place in Cornwall’s patchwork of communities, Gwinear offers a quietly historic presence on the Cornish map—an identity shaped by its past administrative role and its location close to Hayle and the Angarrack valley.
