About Lawhitton
Lawhitton is a village tucked into the Cornish countryside, two miles southwest of Launceston and just half a mile west of Cornwall’s border with Devon at the River Tamar. It is the principal settlement of the civil parish of Lawhitton Rural, created in 1894 from the part of the old parish that lay outside Launceston’s borough boundaries. The parish is neatly framed by neighbouring communities: the River Tamar and the Devon border to the east; St Thomas by Launceston parish to the north; Launceston parish to the west; and Lezant parish to the south. Located in the PL15 postcode district within Cornwall in England’s South West region, Lawhitton’s quiet location close to Launceston and the Tamar highlights the ways landscape and local administration have shaped this corner of the county. Visitors and curious explorers alike can appreciate its intimate scale and the clear line where two counties meet, a reminder of the region’s layered history and geography.
