About Poltesco
Poltesco is a small hamlet and valley in the parish of Grade‑Ruan on the Lizard Peninsula, Cornwall (TR12), in the South West of England. The lower part of the valley is owned by the National Trust, and the place carries the imprint of a once-thriving stone industry. In its working days Poltesco produced carved ornaments that were exported across Britain and into Europe, a reminder of the craftsmanship that grew from this coastal landscape. Today the hamlet and valley read as a quietly storied corner of Cornwall: a settlement rooted in local history and a valley where industrial heritage meets National Trust stewardship. Poltesco offers a contemplative alternative to busier spots on the peninsula, inviting an appreciation for the region’s past and the small, resilient communities that helped shape it.
