East Pool Mine

Two enormous Cornish beam engines — among the finest surviving examples in the world — stand at East Pool Mine in their original engine houses. The larger of the two, the 90-inch pumping engine, is the largest surviving beam engine in Cornwall. Built around the restored Robinson's Shaft of South Crofty — the last working tin mine in Europe, which closed in 1998 — Heartlands is a world-class heritage attraction in the heart of the Cornish mining country. The beautifully landscaped grounds include a sculpture trail, the iconic winding engine house, and regularly changing exhibitions. One of the best free days out in Cornwall.
