About Port Isaac

Port Isaac is a small fishing village on the Atlantic coast of north Cornwall, England. Ten miles (16 km) from either Wadebridge or Camelford, it occupies a distinctive corner of the county where sea and land have long been in conversation. A nearby hamlet, Port Gaverne, is often thought of as part of Port Isaac, adding a close-knit neighbour to the village’s identity. The Cornish name, Porthysek, translates as “port abounding in corn,” a direct reminder that the village’s story is rooted not only in fishing but in the movement of corn from the arable inland district. That dual heritage — maritime livelihood alongside agricultural trade — gives Port Isaac a layered character: the rhythm of the tides alongside echoes of fields and carts from inland.
