About St Columb Road
St Columb Road is a small village in Cornwall's South West, tucked close to Fraddon and Indian Queens. It lies just half a mile (750m) from the A30, giving it a neat roadside presence without losing its modest scale. The village grew around its railway stop on the branch line from Par to Newquay: when the station opened in 1876 it was called Halloon, but it was renamed soon afterwards to reflect the existence of St Columb Major further north. That new name — St Columb Road — was then adopted by the local settlement which followed. The story of the station and its renaming is central to the village’s identity, a small but telling example of how transport links have shaped place names and communities in Cornwall. The village falls within the TR9 postcode district, and its close ties to both rail and road make it a concise, accessible chapter in the county’s wider landscape of villages and connections.
