The oldest museum in Cornwall, founded in 1818, the Royal Cornwall Museum occupies a dignified Georgian building in Truro's city centre. The collections span three hundred million years, from Devonian fossils and Bronze Age hoards to Newlyn School paintings and a reconstructed Cornish tin streaming works. The Egyptian mummy has delighted and unsettled visitors for nearly two centuries.

The only cathedral built in England in the nineteenth century to a traditional cruciform plan, Truro's triple-spired Gothic Revival masterpiece dominates the city and is visible from miles around. Completed in 1910, it incorporates a surviving aisle from the medieval parish church it replaced. The interior — particularly the nave's soaring height — is genuinely moving.
