West Hoe

West Hoe’s harbour-side character is punctuated by a remarkable living landmark: Plymouth Lifeboat Station. The RNLI base has rooted a strong maritime presence in the city since the early 1800s, when the first lifeboat arrived to watch over these often-changeable waters. Today the station occupies a Grade II-listed three-storey tower at Millbay Docks, a distinctive 1992 home that speaks of both history and purpose. Since 2003 the crews have worked from a Severn-class all-weather lifeboat, paired with a B-class Atlantic inshore lifeboat, ready for every tide and weather shift.
