About Griggs
Griggs is a small Cornish settlement framed by a quietly historic piece of local rail infrastructure. The story centres on Lelant Saltings railway station, opened on 27 May 1978 to serve as a park-and-ride for visitors bound for St Ives. Set on the A3074 close to its junction with the A30 and near the foot of the hill rising to Lelant village, the Saltings once eased summer journeys to the coast. In June 2019 the park-and-ride facility moved to nearby St Erth station, but Lelant Saltings remains in place, now served by a very limited number of trains. For visitors who appreciate off‑beat transport stories and low-key Cornish charm, Griggs’ connection to this modest station is a reminder of how local travel patterns evolve while small pieces of infrastructure linger on, quietly marking the landscape’s recent past.
