About Lizard

Known variously as Lizard, The Lizard, The Lizard Town, or The Lizard Village, this village sits on the Lizard peninsula in Cornwall in England's South West. Situated about ten miles (16 km) south of Helston, Lizard is mainland Britain's most southerly settlement. A welcoming tourist centre, the village centres on a large green that forms its social heart. The green is surrounded by cafes and gift shops, where visitors and locals alike can pause, browse and take in the atmosphere. Compact and characterful, Lizard offers a simple, pleasant base from which to experience the peninsula. Its combination of village life makes the green a natural meeting place and the obvious starting point for exploring the immediate area. For practicalities, the settlement falls within the TR12 postcode district in the county of Cornwall, region South West. Known by several names, Lizard retains the small-village charm that draws people to this corner of the mainland.

Attractions

Regarded by many as the most beautiful cove in England, Kynance's serpentine rock stacks, turquoise sea and white sand are of a quality that seems almost tropical. The serpentine — the rare green and red stone found only here and in Oman — gives the rocks their extraordinary colour. The National Trust manages the approach, and the cafe above the cove is famous for its crab sandwiches.
