About Walkhampton
Walkhampton is a village and civil parish tucked on the western side of Dartmoor in Devon. It sits on the Black Brook, a tributary of the River Walkham, giving the settlement a quietly watery edge amid moorland surrounds. About seven kilometres (4.3 miles) south‑east of Tavistock, Walkhampton occupies a handy position close to neighbouring villages Horrabridge, Yelverton and Dousland, making it part of a string of communities at the moor’s fringe. To the south‑east lies Burrator Reservoir, constructed in 1898, an imposing presence in the landscape and a clear landmark when exploring the area. Whether noted for its Moorland setting or its place beside the River Walkham’s tributary, Walkhampton offers a concise picture of rural life on Dartmoor’s western flank, where streams, reservoirs and nearby villages define the local geography.
