About Efford

Efford began life as an historic manor in the parish of Eggbuckland, Devon, and today has been absorbed into the city of Plymouth as a large eastern suburb. Much of the housing dates from after the Second World War, and the area is predominantly made up of local authority and housing association properties. Perched on high ground about 300 feet above the Laira estuary of the River Plym, Efford rewards residents and visitors with far-reaching views: north across the moorland of Dartmoor and to the east and south‑east over the rolling charm of the South Hams. There is a sense of layered history here, from manor to modern suburb, and a memory of what the place once was — before development this land was known as 'The Wilds of Efford' and was largely unspoilt. Today Efford offers a quiet, residential character anchored by that history and by its distinctive outlook across Plymouth’s estuary and the wider Devon landscape.
